Happy 2006
New Years kicked off with Japanese buffet dinner at Ichi-Ban… for reasonable price, eat all you want raw fish and seafood like oysters etc etc..
Drinking bud had oyster craving but they always disappeared as soon as they were served.
People discarded their manners, the handling thongs and propriety by practically getting their bare hands into the oyster tray. Sheesh.
And they kept coming back every round to get more…. i saw this middle-aged guy leaving the buffet table, his plate piled high with oysters and self-satisfied smile plastered on his face. One family with ravenous appetites kept sending the youngest boy over to queue up at the oysters table to wait for it to arrive.
When everything seemed bleak, at last the waiters took pity on us and warned us in advance when it was time for the oysters to appear.
At the oyster table queue line, the same people were there once more…
“Oh its you again…keep coming back, huh?”
My friend loved to exaggerate that I was fighting with the little boy for the most oysters.
Honestly! Some people!! All i managed was 11!
Later, we headed onto Finns, where friend was depressed by the quiet, unexcited crowd. We were given party packs… the only people who were blowing the toots were me, friend and the little boy at the next table..
Wet pulp-like streamers flew everywhere, and we opted to get some onto us.
Later, we left and when it was time to call it a night at the last “pit stop”, we were pleasantly surprised to meet peeps from the night before, and their surprising friends….
Think Russians, think the Mafia, black market, KGB, communism, the Cold War, nuclear weapons, etc etc…For the longest time, whenever Hollywood produced movies about good vs evil, the stage would be set for the US and the Soviet Union. Hollywood has gotten more inventive since the 90s, there are more diverse nationalities now and even more and more Asian villains are entering the movies.
So, what exactly is one to think when they meet a group of Russians in M’sia? Brrrrrr….
But they do know how to party…. a rather gregarious lot, the more chatty ones chat with everybody…they are rather intense and passionate as well… watching a shit-faced Russian having a convo with equally shit-faced English, the Russian talks and gestures as though he is going to get into a fight… and then all of a sudden they are having more vodka shots!! Such a curious bunch.
And then u start to remember that Soviet Union used to have Kazakhstan, Chechnya, Ukraine and Uzbekistan and more other states as well… even though no more a Union, there is an obvious camraderie among them…
Me: “Pssst…. where are you and your friends going??”
Khan from Chechnya: “What is this? I dont believe it! You dont even ask who I am? How I am doing? No Happy New Year??”
His saucer-like eyes widen, the bla-bla-bla-ing continued, souvenirs exchanged…
10 minutes later, Alexy the Moscovit from the nite before joins in…
Khan: Do you know what she said to me just now? I will tell you!!!
Me: Dont believe him! He is lying! Look at him, he looks like the Mafia, for goodness’ sake!
Alexy: Dont believe him?? Of course I believe him…he is my brother!!!
Have more pics of fireworks, oysters etc… unfortunately dun have Picasa, too lazy to get it and pics are too big.. managed to shrink the above however. Sleep beckons.
Happy New Year. Over and out.

Excerpt-
Q: So do you think what you do is appropriate for people to look up to?
A: I dont think so, because everyone has their own mind and brain and they should think for themselves whether what we do is appropriate for them or not. We want people to be free.
They broke into the international scene with provocative music videos and kissing on stage…and yet they are probably going to be awarded the Order of Friendship which is usually given to people who have contributed to strengthening ties with other countries.
Honestly. If they were from any other country….?!?
