One weekend…
..havent been in a hack n slash game, much less a PS2 version for a long time already.
Instead of having my usual alcohol-soaked weekend, I had to hang out with brother…
Dude was already in the middle of a hack n slash.. the latest Champions of Norrath - Champions return to Arms.
What was funny about him and his motley crew was that they were the bad guys… or rather “girls”. There was however, one huge lizard who was able to power up and become bigger, complete with flaming axe-thingy and all.
After watching them do their thing, I had the chance to take over the lizard aka Dr. Albania.
Boy! It was FUUUUN!!!! Harrowing at times.. huge crab monsters will all jump on you, instantly killing you but the wiliest and most resourceful of the lot - a real girl btw- devised a strategy and used her destructive disease spell to get us through it.
After that, I let loose with the hackin’ and slashin’ - more of a way to de-stress from a chaotic month at work.
Spells, fight moves, weapons, armour and accessories have really taken on a whole new dimension since the days of Ultima V… there were so many to choose from, you just dun know where to begin!
You can even drastically extend your life this time around, things to remember to do before you go headling into the fighting fray - constantly pushing X button with right thumb, right big button with fourth finger, the left joystick with left thumb AND the small left button with left fourth finger. And whenever u feel the odds are totally against you, just hit the SELECT button to gate back to safety! More than anything, survival is not just what you armour, and weaponise yourself with but also your coordination, flexibility, dexterity and reach of your fingers.
Not forgetting, you also have to loot to survive financially and needless to say I was always the last to clean out the treasure chests etc etc.
We even managed to go to an Ah Beng-Ah Lian pub at Sri Hartamas (in the real world), what to do, beer was cheapest there… we just tried to pay no heed to the totally sloshed students speaking in tongues (though secretly i was observing their behaviour…FASCINATING!!!) - and devised our own version, albeit alcohol-induced form of entertainment - One Frog, 007, Oh Zom etc etc
Finished two jugs, got out of there swaying left and right and went home to continue Champions of Norrath game. All the way to 5am. Havent finished yet.
we have to finish the quest…evil must triumph!
