Had to laugh at this…

Charge of d light brigade

March 27, 2006

I come fm a variety of backgrounds. The one i seldom talk abt wud b considered extreme by many… along d lines of ours is not to question why, but to do or die.

Depressing at times…but there were its high points. A big group of girls having to live n work together, n basically see each other at their worse n best.

Team spirit was an unspoken motto, hard work n good positive attitude valued.

The tough of that was tat if anyone stepped out of line, the whole team moved as one like a well-oiled instrument of justice… how i hated it at that time. But looking back, everyone who had big bright orange basketballs aimed for their ass prob. deserved it.

“All the cogs of d machine hv to run smoothly,” rationalised d coach. He also rationalised tat the team has the right to show you exactly wat they mean if u arent keeping up… all the more if u r giving attitude. How the stragglers raged against that philosophy…. until a new batch of stragglers emerged to replace them n they knew exactly how the whole team felt.

Endless blood, sweat, tears n frustration. But good times. Good times.

Ive served under a variety of leaderships - supervisors, eds, coaches, captains etc
Ive seen wat they can do… wat they can give n continue to give. How they can get right there in d dirt with you n motivate a huge group perform miracles.Teammates r no less important but captains put it all together n never stop giving.

Ive seen them, felt them, KNOWN them.

Which is why i know i cannot n dont want to b in their shoes cos it wont b fair to the team when i CANNOT give them everything they need or enough of wat they need.

Which is how i know, how they r those among us who r not cut out for it.

But, if smtg is meant to b an opportunity to learn… then grab it n learn.
FOCUS on it… LEARN frm learning, embrace it n dun stop till it becomes the CENTER of your being. When it does… nothing else will matter.

If an orange ball comes straight at u… perhaps its time to think about the OTHER things u may be doing in the process.

Web2.0 - social networking era.

March 25, 2006

A: u don’t get it do u
doesn’t matter if it is for yahoo.sg or yahoo.my
the whole idea is to get your Yahoo users involved in the content creation
that is web2.0
if u think readers don’t like to read what other readers (non-professional) write, tell me why then is blogging so popular?

Cat: reader a blog and reading a REVIEW r two different things

A: no, i disagree with u. its the same..

Cat: if u can prove it……fine. LOL

A: if you want to watch a movie, which would sway u to watch a movie, a movie review or your friend’s recomendation
your friend’s recomendation right?
so let’s say your friend start to blog?
would u rather go to the blog or read the movie review?
and if your friend blog the movie is good, you go watch a movie and find it good, wouldn’t you recommend other friends to go read your friend’s blog before watching the movie?
and if your other friends recommend other friends
?
and get this, because your this movie review friend is using a blog engine, readers of his blogs can actually put in comments and your friend can reply.. thus starting a conversation
this is the essence of web2.0.. social networking
same for yahoo.. if yahoo get Yahoo users to be movie reviewers, let other readers comment about this movie review, plus give them option to rate these Yahoo movie reviewers..

Cat: sounds like forum

A: agree.. the whole concept of web2.0 evolved from forums.. that is why hardwarezone.com is doing so well with the htis
hits
its is not their article that bring in the hits
its the forum

Theory: we like to read what our peers write. Its more entertaining and you can relate better to a friends opinion. Yes, Id refer to a movie review by a friend….. except if they have bad taste in movies!!!

Google Page Creator

March 24, 2006

Got a Google Page Creator account today…and I have to say Im amazed at how fast, responsive and intuitive the controls are - would they work as well if it were a slower computer or a lower bandwidth..I would have to find out.

But it looks like the Google team really approached this project from the consumer/user point of view and really thought about “How would I like to work this?” and “How do i make this more convenient and simple?”

Unlike the blog engines Ive had to work with, there is no separate page to get to the master controls to edit your page.
image
Google Page Creator instead lets little windows come up on the page you are creating itself, for you to customise elements like images, links, text etc.

Like Blogsome, there is a sort of real-time preview technology which saves time entering text in fields like this. Of course, you have option of customising what you want it to appear like on your page.

Its still in beta, and currently limit space to 100MB. But overall.... it's awesome. There's more I've yet to check out. Laters, maybe.

kickass

The hazards of memory cards

March 20, 2006

cat: boo pics boo pics
dadda: racing pics racing pics

Actually took loads… esp. Honda’s Jenson Button as dadda and boo are true blue patriotics, but bleedin’ memory card didnt hold up its end of the bargain and corrupted all me image files. *SOB*

Sepang’s Formula One

March 19, 2006

F1 sepang winner
Italian (?) Fisichella for Renault emerges victorious. His teammate Alonso take second place and Jenson Button is third…… Ferrari was nowhere even close.. this is the first time i witnessed F1 at all and have never followed the races…so I wonder…what is so great about Michael Schumacher?
Is it just the image that drivers get cos they drive for Ferrari? Is it because Ferrari has such a sexy image (a prancing horse dammit) compared to cigarette companies or Japanese motor companies or so called energy tonics?Well done anyway…and congrats to Jenson Button…. I know at least two people who would be ectstatic that you got special honours on Msian soil :)

Laters folks.

The brilliance of N

March 15, 2006

..without any substance assistance, N theorises up the concept of RAID-ing thumb drives.
With the number of thumb drives which one gets as freebies (5, 10, 15???).. put them to good use by RAID-ing them first and then using them as external hard disks - u get extra storage space plus X’mas lights decorations on your puter.
But of course, you’ll need external USB hubs and a few power outlets… but think of the faster data read and write speeds you’ll get with flash memory…..

Im not the beer drinker i tot i was.
Was put to shame by another who downed his mug in 2 seconds flat. When he finished… I was still halfway into mine!!!

That weekend…

March 12, 2006

…what a drag.

Drinking buddy isnt in town… tot i would have a nice sober weekend but was partially wrong.

zain
abidin

After getting some work done at Espanda then Hard Rock Cafe (where we were on TV for a few seconds whilst drooling at Anuar Zain and Zainal Abidin..pics later), was weaving my way home with a friend when the phone rang… twas anooother drinking buddy…”Hey Cat! I saw you walking on the street just now!!!”

Thank goodness she didnt say “stumbling”…so anyway..there was a nice alcohol-free plan gone bust, and friend dropped me off at Rum Jungle where I topped up my beer levels with M and her gang. Tis not a bad place.. music was awesome, there was a live South African band playing called Kilimanjaro… nothing like Southern Glow which you get at the Hilton’s Zeta Bar… but they were both entertaining in their own way.

Had a swell time monkeying around Rum Jungle and then it was off to Beach Club.. the last time that I stepped foot in there, me and friend had met a small bunch of disgustingly infectious Ozs who were also extremely obscure.
Over-dosed on vodka that nite and floated away to la-la land with my eyes wide open. God bless their stocking-ed feet.

So continued monkeying around there again… this time there was a Shell bloke who pretended to be sloshed and incoherent as soon as i said i would see him at the Grand Stand at F1.

But the weekend hasnt been all bad… made my way to office to get some work done…then off to Kuala Selangor with d family. Was running low on fuel… hadnt had time to eat so halfway up the murky river, we begged uncle sampan man to row us back. Then we went somewhere in Tanjung Karang for jolly good seafood - for eight peeps who shared crabs, soup, fish, bamboo clams, some fried thingy, veggies and assorted egg it all cost RM140. JOLLY GOOD!!!!!

The sad thing about this weekend is…. Im working now.. or… on call, so to speak. ONE MORE HOUR, CAT! ONE MORE HOUR!!!

******************

30 more minutes to go.

In other news… have Baby Boo’s latest pics of her morning hair. I cant get over how hair-istically impossible her hair gets… its all raggedy ends with bits sticking out on her left side… slept on her left side methinks? Dadda used to say she would turn this way and that while she’s snoozing.
Her hair looks stupendously horrific… one day when she’s older she might look at it again and give dadda some grief for not even doing her the service of tidying it a little. Even I still cant get over it.

Formula One, Sepang 2006

March 9, 2006

Am not a racing fan… but am surrounded by racing kakis who’ll unwittingly feed me the latest F1 updates..fair enough, fair enough!

So, im going to the F1 at Sepang at last (upon invitation, no way i could afford those grand stand tix!!!).. and am pretty excited about it too… expect I’ll be taking lotta pics.. and am going to have a grand time and see for myself why my friends love the Formula One so much

Ok ok..here it is at last

A proper pic of iPAQs launched in Hong Kong… looks like the O2 Atom, so chances are that it is Quanta-made. A lot of people already seem to think so.

When asking DOPOD about how close their collaboration is with HTC…. response that came was that DOPOD and HTC has the same shareholders from the Malaysian perspective. Now, how vague is that?

More postings later… had “stolen” pics from some Aussie’s camera… and wondering whether to post them up. Privacy vs sharing ethics, u see? I wonder which will win out… hehehehehehe
