Charge of d light brigade
I come fm a variety of backgrounds. The one i seldom talk abt wud b considered extreme by many… along d lines of ours is not to question why, but to do or die.
Depressing at times…but there were its high points. A big group of girls having to live n work together, n basically see each other at their worse n best.
Team spirit was an unspoken motto, hard work n good positive attitude valued.
The tough of that was tat if anyone stepped out of line, the whole team moved as one like a well-oiled instrument of justice… how i hated it at that time. But looking back, everyone who had big bright orange basketballs aimed for their ass prob. deserved it.
“All the cogs of d machine hv to run smoothly,” rationalised d coach. He also rationalised tat the team has the right to show you exactly wat they mean if u arent keeping up… all the more if u r giving attitude. How the stragglers raged against that philosophy…. until a new batch of stragglers emerged to replace them n they knew exactly how the whole team felt.
Endless blood, sweat, tears n frustration. But good times. Good times.
Ive served under a variety of leaderships - supervisors, eds, coaches, captains etc
Ive seen wat they can do… wat they can give n continue to give. How they can get right there in d dirt with you n motivate a huge group perform miracles.Teammates r no less important but captains put it all together n never stop giving.
Ive seen them, felt them, KNOWN them.
Which is why i know i cannot n dont want to b in their shoes cos it wont b fair to the team when i CANNOT give them everything they need or enough of wat they need.
Which is how i know, how they r those among us who r not cut out for it.
But, if smtg is meant to b an opportunity to learn… then grab it n learn.
FOCUS on it… LEARN frm learning, embrace it n dun stop till it becomes the CENTER of your being. When it does… nothing else will matter.
If an orange ball comes straight at u… perhaps its time to think about the OTHER things u may be doing in the process.
